Dell is an industry leader when it comes to making top of the line computer monitors. Dell S2415H is a fitting addition to this category because of its sold design and performance. Because of the very reason, customers of this monitor are giving positive reviews of this product. This offering from the company has 24 inch screen size. We call it the perfect size for a display because it is neither too large nor too small for the consumer. It is an ideal bargain for people who don’t have enough space on their computer desk.

Dell S2415H is a mid-range monitor and it is modestly priced. It is a very good choice for people who want to own a monitor for casual gaming and everyday use. It is not targeted to professional gamers and people who want to do graphics-intensive work. If you want to buy it for daily usage, you can go ahead and order it but if you want to get it for professional gaming and graphic designing, then there are many other options in the market which can fulfill your purpose. If you are looking for a cheap gaming monitor, HP OMEN 32 might be the one which fits your needs.

Design

The design of this product is quite similar to Dell SE2717HX which we reviewed earlier from the front angle. It has breathtaking borderless appearance with ultra-narrow bezel. The edge-to-edge panel looks pretty cool. When you turn it on, everything around it kind of disappears and all your focus remain on what is on the computer screen. Due to small bezel, you can easily use it in a multi-monitor environment.

S2415h panel is black in color whereas its stylish stand comes with silver touch. Capacitive touch OSD menu buttons can be accessed easily from the bottom right side of the panel. They are very friendly in use and don’t create any problems when you press them.

Its silver stand provides only tilt functionality. You can tilt it up to 5° forward and 21° backward. There is no height adjustment option. Thankfully, it supports VESA mount so you can easily detach the stand and mount it on the wall. It kind of solves height issue if you are fine with the idea of mounting the monitor.

Display

Dell S2415H has beautiful and high quality 23.8 Inches IPS display with LED backlight technology. The use of In-plane switching aka IPS panel makes sure that colors and images are crystal clear from almost every possible viewing angle. In fact, it provides up to 178º horizontal and 178º vertical viewing angle. This monitor has full HD 1920×1080 resolution which is not the best by today’s standards as we have even 4K and 5K resolution monitors in the market but it is decent enough for casual gaming, entertainment and everyday tasks. Moreover, at this price point you can’t expect expensive IPS display with 4K resolution.

It has a typical aspect ratio of 16:9 which comes in handy when you are watching movies and other entertainment stuff. Its dynamic contrast ratio is 8 Million:1 and maximum brightness level is 250 cd/m².

Dell S2415H chose glossy screen instead of matte screen and both panel types have its advantages and disadvantages. At the end of the day, it depends on the choice of the customer. With glossy screen, you get nice and bright colors but you have to be careful about where you put your monitor in the room. You should avoid putting it at a place where sunlight rays come in direct contact with the display as it would produce glare. This option is understandable for rooms with decent amount of light but too much light is not good for it.

Performance

In terms of performance, S2415H fares pretty well when you look at the crisp text and lifelike images it produces. If you want to further improve results according to your needs, you can use preset modes like standard, multimedia and games. These settings will be helpful in different environments.

Although, it produces great display, it is not a dream monitor for professional gamers and graphic designers. Full HD resolution, response time of 6ms and refresh rate of 60Hz are average specs for people who love to do any one of these two things. These things would be barely noticeable for a user who performs simple tasks with monitor like web browsing, document editing and watching movies but gaming enthusiasts will get effected with these specs, therefore, this monitor is not recommended for them.

There are two 3 watts integrated speakers in Dell S2415H but they are mediocre at best. If you like listening to music and want to watch movies on it, then you would be better off investing in some external speaker system. There is also a headphone-out jack on the left side of the panel which can come to your rescue if you don’t have extra space for the audio system.

There are only VGA and HDMI(MHL) ports for connevtivity. It lacks ports such as DVI, DisplayPort or mini DP. This can be a problem for some folks. If Dell had added at least DisplayPort, you could easily daisy-chain multiple monitors.

Dell S2415H is a wonderful budget monitor for folks who spend most of their time creating word or excel documents, web browsing, watching movies and casually playing games. The story is different when it comes to professional gamers, video editors and graphic designers. Unfortunately, it is not a perfect candidate for them and they need to look elsewhere.
